What You'd Actually Do

This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Digital Services at CMS (DSAC). As an IT Specialist (ENTARCH/SYSANALYSIS), referred to here as a Senior Software Engineer, GS-2210-15, you will work with a diverse group of stakeholders across the CMS, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Federal Government to improve the digital services that the government delivers to citizens and businesses.

Key Duties

  • Address the changing needs of CMS to ensure the technology the Agency is utilizing is keeping pace with Agency and Departmental priorities and policies changes.
  • Lead the transformation of critical services using best practices and new approaches to support government modernization efforts.
  • Assess existing systems and determine when it is necessary to decouple or redesign systems to ensure that they are accessible, protect beneficiary data and claims, and are in line with CMS’ mission and priorities.
  • Manage multiple workstreams concurrently, performing customer facing duties and executing cloud analytics.
  • Set up technical architecture to handle cybersecurity for the National Provider Director (NPD) Ecosystem.

  • In order to qualify for the GS-15, you must meet the IT Competencies below AND the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: Leading cross-functional teams (e.g., product managers, designers, data engineers, contractors) in the design and/or development of Information Technology (IT) systems to include developing requirements, assigning tasks, and monitoring progress; AND Collaborating with stakeholders on modernization efforts of existing IT systems and/or improving interoperability of existing IT systems; AND Designing, developing, modifying, and/or implementing technical architecture to maintain cybersecurity for IT ecosystems (e.g., National Provider Directory (NPD), National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES), Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS), or the CMS Core Data Model).

  • Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
